Living in Denmark, you have the opportunity to become a member of a Danish unemployment insurance fund, and receive unemployment benefits if you meet the requirements.

A membership insures you against loss of income, just like insuring yourself against accidents.

In order to be entitled to unemployment benefits (dagpenge) in Denmark, you need to be a member of an unemployment insurance fund (A-kasse). As part of the Danish idea of the flexicurity model, the Danish unemployment insurance fund provides an income safety net in between jobs in a job market where employees easily can move from job to job. In this introduction to Akademikernes A-kasse you will get an insight into the following: What is an unemployment insurance fund Eligibility rules regarding benefits Eligible for the Danish job market and benefits Supplementary benefits – once obtained the rights to benefits Self-employed before and after benefits At the event, you will meet case worker Sara Castenberg who have guided members and non-members regarding the rules of unemployment benefits for 4,5 years at Akademikernes A-kasse.
