Holiday and Sick Pay after Graduation

If you don’t have a job lined up after finishing your studies, and plan to register as unemployed on jobnet.dk, you’ll need to know the rules on taking holidays and reporting sickness.

You can register as unemployed on jobnet.dk from the day you become eligible for unemployment benefits:

  • One day after you receive your final grade, if you’ve been a student member for at least a year.
  • One month and one day after receiving your final grade, if you become a member as a recent graduate.

You should also be aware of the specific rules about holidays and sickness.

Taking a holiday as a new graduate

You might be planning a well-deserved break after completing your studies. In that case, you should wait to register as unemployed on jobnet.dk until after your holiday, when you’re ready to start looking for work. That’s because you must be available for work and attend sessions once registered as unemployed.

If you register as unemployed on jobnet.dk and later decide to take a holiday, you must report it to the job centre.

When you log in to Mit AKA, you’ll see a link at the top to jobnet.dk that lets you register your holiday. When you click on ’Meld ferie’ (Register holiday), you can read about deadlines to keep in mind and find guidance on where to register your holiday on jobnet.dk.

If you become sick as a new graduate

If you’re unfortunate enough to be sick when you finish your studies, don’t register as unemployed on jobnet.dk. Instead, you must report sick to the job centre to receive sick pay.

If you become sick on the day you’ve registered as unemployed on jobnet.dk, you must report sick on jobnet.dk. In this case, you can receive unemployment benefits for the first 14 days. If you are sick for longer, you are eligible for sick pay from the municipality.

In both cases, you must change your membership status from student to recent graduate within 14 days of receiving your final grade.
