AI for Students
ChatGPT and other AI tools can be of great help in your studies, especially when you know how to prompt them to get really good results.
Five tips for a good prompt
1. Be specific
The more specific you are, the better the results. For example, if you need ideas for a task, you can be more specific by adding details. This could include the recipient, genre, language, technical terms and examples.
2. Remember the context
Providing context can save you a lot of time. For example, you can ask ChatGPT to be a person by typing: Pretend you are my teacher in [subject] in [x semester] at the university and mention current and relevant topics to study in an assignment. Topics must include [theory] and [key concepts]. That way, you have added context. And you’ve also made ChatGPT an expert in what you need help with.
3. Specify how you want the answer
Write if you want the answer in a list, for example, and how many bullet points there should be. Or if you want the answer in a table with X number of columns.
4. Give ChatGPT a response
Don’t be cheeky when you reply – but let CharGPT know if the answer wasn’t quite what you sought. Provide even more detail and context to improve the next answer.
5. Double check
Remember that AI tools can be creative and hallucinate if they don’t have the correct answer for you. You can check if the answer is correct by asking about the source, for example: "What study shows what you write in point [x]?" so you can verify the source’s validity. You can also ask it to only use credible sources. But you should always verify them to make sure.
Remember to check up on your university’s rules on the use of AI.
