Get financial support as a new graduate
Got your finances sorted after graduation? Financial security brings peace of mind and lets you focus on more important things, such as landing your first job. Whether or not you are a member of an unemployment insurance fund is something that can significantly impact your financial situation as a new graduate. As a member of an unemployment insurance fund, you are eligible for unemployment benefits (dagpenge) if you are unemployed after completing your studies.
But what exactly is the difference between an unemployment insurance fund (a-kasse) and a trade union (fagforening) – and between receiving unemployment benefits or social assistance?

How to land your first job
Statistically, many recent graduates face unemployment after completing their studies. There may be several reasons for this, but there are also tips and tricks for you and things you can do to stand out in the pool of candidates.
Here are three great tips from one of our career advisors which you can use to get off to a good start in your job search:
- Get help from a career advisor to clarify what you want and are able to do. It will make a huge difference when trying to break through to the employers.
- Attend workshops on unsolicited job applications and job searching through networking. You can learn a lot here. Many jobs are never advertised and can be accessed through networking and direct contact with companies.
- Be brave, creative, and take initiative. Based on your passions, identify the companies and people you think are doing amazing things in the field you also want to work in. Find creative ways to contact them and praise them for what they do. You’ll be surprised by how much positive feedback you can get using this approach and the opportunities it can create in your job search.
